What to expect: your roof replacement, step by step

A Stormshield roof replacement runs in five stages: a free in-home inspection, a clear written estimate, a pre-installation site visit, installation by our production team, and a final walkthrough. Most installs take a few days.

1. Your free in-home inspection

Your Stormshield estimator comes to your home and inspects your roof, including the attic. He looks at what your home needs and talks through your options with you. There is no obligation to buy.

2. Your written estimate

The inspection ends with a clear written estimate showing Good, Better and Best side by side, so you can compare roofing systems line by line. If you're interested in financing, your estimator can walk you through the Service Finance application during the visit.*

3. Permits and your pre-installation site visit

We check your city's permit rules and pull any required permit for you. Before install day, our pre-installation site visit confirms your materials and colors.

4. Installation day

• Your landscaping, siding, windows and driveway are protected with OSB and tarps.
• The old roof comes off completely, down to the structural deck. We never lay a new roof over an old one.
• Every exposed board is inspected and repaired or replaced as needed.
• Ice-and-water shield goes along every eave, valley and rake edge and around every penetration, with synthetic underlayment everywhere else.
• New drip edge, Malarkey starter strip and Malarkey shingles, with 4 nails per shingle in the manufacturer's nailing zone.
• New step flashing, chimney flashing and pipe flashing, color-matched Malarkey hip and ridge shingles, and ridge ventilation planned for your home.
• Debris is cleaned up at the end of each day, with a magnet sweep for nails during the job and again at completion.

Most roof replacements take a few days. Larger or steeper roofs, extra layers and rain can add time.

5. Final walkthrough

Our production team walks the finished roof with you and hands over your warranty documents.
